Rare Dementia Support member, Rory Barnes has compiled an anthology of his poetry, written out of personal experience living with primary progressive nonfluent aphasia. The poems provide a window on this illness ‘from the inside’. In Rory's words;
'I marvel at poetry’s ability to say things in more detail and meaning, and to communicate on so many levels, than prose, and in fewer words. It’s a mysterious thing that comes down upon my head unbidden.
I have told my PPA story in twenty three pages of prose and over one hundred poems. I am still adding to the collection.
How many poets have PPA? I have advanced symptoms but have retained my intellect. This is very rare and allows me to tell an inside story. Inside indeed. I believe that every patient has an internal life of some sort.'
